Right after the Homily at church service today, I had the opportunity to chat a little bit with Sis. Nellie. She was asking about the newly ordained Deacon who delivered the Homily.

The schedule for my wedding service today as commentator was 2 pm. I rushed to the church. I knew I was I was early. After all, I was there with 20 minutes to spare.

Tips for Swapping Schedules in Church Service
I wonder how many churches have this problem on lector no-shows when it comes to mass services. Because it certainly has been a perennial problem in the parish.
When a lector or commentator is absent, it creates unnecessary burden and stress to the other lectors who do turn up for the service. It becomes worse if the absent lector is the assigned commentator.

Being scheduled and asked to be commentator for the wedding and then later being asked to go home instead is quite upsetting to say the least. That's how I felt when a scheduled wedding was cancelled suddenly for reasons unknown to me.

Moving the Choir from the Loft - Part 2
(This is the continuation from Part 1)
So I looked around and examined the surroundings for what could be the reason why the acoustics inside the church has changed. The only obvious change was the transfer of the church choir and their instruments.
Another change, not visible to many, are the wires and cables running on the floor of the sanctuary. The choir's microphones and instruments certainly had audio cables. Because of their transfer, these instruments needed new audio ports and sockets.

This Sunday's mass was a bit out of the ordinary. I thought all along it would be the usual commentator role I will be taking.
The only difference I saw when I came in was that the choir including their electronic devices (microphones, keyboard) were relocated. From the usual choir loft, they are now located in front, near the corner where the commentator's lectern is positioned.

Attention to Sequence in Wedding Program
I suppose I was a bit lucky in today's wedding because the wedding coordinator was very cordial and called the two mass readers to immediately see me. Since the mass readers were on time, i.e., earlier than the rest of the entourage, the orientation for them was quick and easy.
I didn't realize though that there was a third reader who just popped up at the Liturgy of the Word itself. He took upon himself the Responsorial Psalm. Since he wasn't at the orientation, I had to constantly cut him off after the Verses because he wasn't supposed to say "Response".

How to End the Wedding Mass as Commentator
When does the wedding mass end? Well, just like with the regular masses, it ends when the priest says "The mass is ended, go in peace..." or something similar. The congregation responds with "Thanks be to God!". Usually, the priest asks the groom to kiss the bride, much to the delight of the attendees, of course. Sometimes there is no wedding kiss for the bride and groom.
Based on the church's wedding mass program, there's nothing more expected from the commentator. It's like something zaps and the commentator disappears.

My Customized Wedding Program Guide
Only a few of my co-lectors know that I prepare and keep my own versions of the wedding mass program guide which the church provides. There are just a handful who know because, for one, there are only few lectors who happen to be wedding mass commentators also.
I have copied the church's wedding mass program and, over the years, edited it to suit my own style. I have noticed that the instructions could be better reworded so they're easier to understand by the wedding mass attendees.

As usual, I was early in today's wedding. The entourage was supposed to have their own mass reader. Well, someone was at the ambo early and I assumed it was the mass reader.

There must be something about today's date that would be wedding couples are attracted to. I remember being assigned to a wedding on this date last year. I had to beg off and had someone relieve me because I had a friend getting married on the same date.

Coming to church this afternoon as wedding commentator, I felt a bit tired. Maybe it's the Christmas novena masses (Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo masses) that were taking a toll on me.

It's a wet rainy morning today when I went to the church for a 10 am wedding as the wedding commentator. Since it was raining, I opted not to use the bike or else I'll just get my pants wet even if I wore a jacket. It's the thigh part of the legs that would get wet from the rain as I pedal the bike.

This is the first time I've seen a drone used for wedding photography. I really didn't see the drone in action. I noticed it though when come communion time, a photography crew was bringing a drone towards the photographers' corner. The pews behind the mass readers have become the place where the crew would do on-site editing. Video editing is done here so some may be shown to enliven the wedding reception.

Actually, I found it odd that he was calling for the pictorials. This is really the job of someone in the photography crew. In past weddings, the photography crew knew exactly where to call out for these pictorials. It is at the commentator's lectern and never at the ambo.

Two Back-to-Back Weddings in One Afternoon
For once, I was scheduled to be commentator on two consecutive wedding masses in one afternoon. And one surprise there was that I was totally unaware that I was to take on the second wedding.
It was only when the scheduled lector told me that she had back-to-back weddings that afternoon did I bother to look at the day's schedule. Well, lo and behold, there was a bracket to both weddings pointing to my name! Ah well, I thought, at least I didn't have problems with the two weddings' mass readers since a lector was already there.

The scheduled wedding today started smoothly. "Too smoothly" perhaps is the better way to describe it. Unlike most weddings that I attended as commentator, the wedding party was quite early. In fact, for once, I thought I came in late when I arrived at the church.
Two Best Men in a Wedding and Two Bloopers
Today's wedding was out of the usual mould. For starters, the groom decided to have two best men for his wedding. I suppose nothing prevents the wedding party from choosing how many bridesmaids and groomsmen they want - best men included.
It wouldn't have mattered to me, except when that the mother-butler asked me to get one chair for the other best man. Naturally, the church only reserves one best man chair for a typical wedding.
