A big part of the mother-butler (church assistants) responsibilities at the wedding mass is in the wedding processional or march. This starts with the orderly formation of the wedding entourage for the procession near the church entrance doors.
This continues with the entourage marching down the aisle. The mother-butlers then guide and usher all the part of the entourage to their respective seats.

This is the first time I've seen a drone used for wedding photography. I really didn't see the drone in action. I noticed it though when come communion time, a photography crew was bringing a drone towards the photographers' corner. The pews behind the mass readers have become the place where the crew would do on-site editing. Video editing is done here so some may be shown to enliven the wedding reception.

Five minutes before the scheduled wedding mass, the mother-butlers were already worried. Less than half of the wedding entourage has arrived. One mother-butler approached me to announce a warning to the wedding attendees, particularly the wedding entourage. I immediately knew what she meant.

Difference between Wedding Planner and Wedding Coordinator
I've often been asked this question. Is the Wedding Planner and Wedding Coordinator the same person?
Well, in most cases, they CAN be the same person. Nowadays, both job tasks are managed by one person. That person though has, typically, a team working for him or her for the gargantuan tasks of managing the wedding.

In the previous article, I mentioned a particular modified item in the customized missalette or program that the wedding couple prepared. It would've been much easier had I asked the parents and godparents (primary sponsors) to simply to stand at their places - as the customized missalette dictated. Our own standard practice at the church was for the commentator to ask the parents and godparents to stand at the sides of the couple.
But that didn't matter. I strictly followed our own standard set of procedures to avoid confusion. Apparently, there were other differences I noted upon closer inspection of the customized wedding missalette.

When the Church's Wedding Missalette is Changed
It is fine if the couple wants to customize their wedding missalette or program. The parish allows it. Typically, what happens is that the names of the couple replace where the words "Groom" and "Bride" in the church's standard wedding missalette.
Additionally, they might also put in the names of all those included in the entourage. At the end of the missalette, a guide on the sequence of pictorials is printed. This enumerates which part of the entourage, friends and relatives will be posing for pictures.

The option of allowing the wedding couple to provide their own mass readers has been in our parish for a long time. After all, many wedding couples would love to have many of their friends and relatives to participate on their wedding day. This is their option.

As a wedding mass commentator, one of the big issues that need to be addressed is the proclamation of the First Reading and Responsorial Psalm.
With ordinary Sunday masses there is no problem. There are two lectors: one for the First Reading with the Responsorial Psalm, and then another for the Second Reading with the Prayer of the Faithful. In the event that one lector is absent, the other takes over that reading also, and so effectively reading both. It is rare though that the two lectors are absent in Sunday masses.

There were Mass Readers After All
It was rather strange that 15 minutes into the wedding mass and I still don't see my usual lector-partner. Normally, she'd be arriving in the church earlier than me, and I arrive around 20 minutes early. That's how punctual she is.
Five minutes later, or ten minutes before the wedding, I'm starting to worry that she won't be coming. I double-checked the wedding schedule at the sacristy. I confirmed her name as the assigned lector for the day's scheduled wedding.

That "someone" didn't appear and so I pressed the wedding coordinator to give me a mass reader immediately. She volunteered a young lady who, unfortunately, was wearing a short skirt. Our mass assistants consider above-the-knee skirts as short, and I didn't want to get an issue again on improper attire for mass readers, so I asked the wedding coordinator to pick another.

The whole entourage would have their turns after the couple's photos, and then, time permitting, even the attendees, composed mostly of friends, officemates and relatives would have their turn too.
It has become well-organized and systematic in fact that after the wedding mass, the wedding coordinator or a member of the photography team takes over the lectern after I, the wedding commentator, leaves.

Customizing Your Wedding Mass Program or Missalette
Unlike in some other countries, Catholic weddings here are usually held within the Holy Mass. Hence, this mass is called a Wedding Mass. In our parish, we just call it a 'wedding' and it's understood as a wedding mass. Because it is still within the Holy Mass, the mass commentator is still necessary, at least in our parish. The fact that it has a wedding ceremony (or Rite of Marriage) in it, lengthens the regular mass. Hence, the wedding mass commentator uses a special mass commentator guide for a wedding mass.

In this wedding (my fourth), I was supposed to be the lector or reader. The assigned wedding mass commentator was a no-show. I have to admit that I didn't see that one coming.
It's times like these when you feel that you're pretty much left on your own. This is where you just have to improvise because there's no other warm body (commissioned lector/commentator) to help out.
