I wonder how many churches have this problem on lector no-shows when it comes to mass services. Because it certainly has been a perennial problem in the parish.
When a lector or commentator is absent, it creates unnecessary burden and stress to the other lectors who do turn up for the service. It becomes worse if the absent lector is the assigned commentator.

One-Man Show: Lector1 Lector2 and Commentator
Who would have thought. But this is indeed one rare occurrence. In last week's Sunday mass at the mall, it was only I who showed up for mass service.
We're supposed to be three and I was the Commentator. The rest were assigned as Lector1 and Lector2.

Multitasking as Commentator and Lector
This is my third wedding as a Wedding Mass Commentator. I was waiting for the commissioned Lector up to the last minute, but no one came. With no more time left to pull someone out from the wedding party and orient, I asked the mass assistants what to do.
The rather unsympathetic response I received from them was, "Well, you could do the Reading yourself." Yup, they meant to do the Commentator job and do the Reader job as well.
