It has been a few weeks that I've noticed the lack of the guide booklets or pamphlets that are used in baptism. These booklets are what we use to follow the holy sacrament. It's the same booklet that the priest uses.
I notice the lack when the responses to the questions addressed to parents and godparents have been soft or weak. When I looked at the attendees, I observed some did not even have the booklet. Several shared one booklet so they can follow and reply to the questions. I believe the seminar remind parents and godparents to reply loudly and clearly to these questions.

Movie Actors at Baptismal Rites
I thought it would just be another ordinary baptism at the parish. The usual godparents and parents bringing their children to be baptized came trickling into the church. They presumably came from the parish hall where the seminar for parents and godparents was conducted. That's how it is in our parish.
Every Sunday, a seminar is conducted for those attending the baptism sacrament as parents or godparents. This coincides with the last morning mass. So after the seminar, the holy mass has ended or is about to end. When those who heard mass start leaving, those attending the baptism enter the church.

Lambasted for Announcing Reminders before Baptism
A few months ago, I was rather annoyed with a comment I heard from a senior mother-butler. Yes we have mother-butlers assisting during the sacraments and that includes baptism. It was one of the most unexpected remark I have ever heard because, quite frankly, I had the impression I was doing a good, nay, a great job as a commentator in baptism.

Do Not Leave your Valuables Unattended Warning
I always ride my bicycle for any service I do at the church or whenever I go to church by myself, for that matter. I serve as commentator and lector for Sunday masses.
I serve as commentator in wedding masses, funeral masses and baptisms. Whenever I go to church riding my bicycle, I always lock it when I park it.
It's a force of habit that's why I do. You can never tell when you lose something important. And I consider the bike necessary for my service. The church welcomes all kinds of folks and so it's better to be safe than sorry.

Car Theft at the Church's Parking Lot
Many weeks ago, there has been reported a car theft at the church's parking lot. The parish church has two areas for parking. The main bigger parking lot is at the front of the church close to the narthex. The other parking lot is behind the main church building. This second parking area is closer to the parish hall and the parish office. The theft occurred at the main parking lot.
I distinctly remember when I was about to leave after my service the last morning mass (10:30am), I heard a commotion at the parking lot. Most other vehicles have left except an olive-green colored van. Apparently, the van was broken into. The family of the van's owner was near the van looking distressed. I overheard the dad telling a few men about the items that were stolen: bags, purses, ipads and some electronic gadgets. The deacon looked concerned while listening to the dad.

Handling an Unruly Crowd during Baptism
Today is the Feast of the Sto. Nino, also known as Feast of the Child Jesus. Many barangays and places all over the country are named Sto. Nino. The Sto. Nino or Child Jesus is a well-loved image here. And I suppose that explains why there were nineteen (19) infants who were baptized today.
Nineteen is a record number, at least for me, anyway. The largest number of babies (including toddlers) baptized is around 50, I think. I heard from the mother-butlers this occurs only on Christmas Day. Because of the sheer number today, it took a little while before everybody was able to sit in the designated pews for baptism.
